Calling all yogi’s!
I’m excited to announce a series of workshops I’ll be leading starting this Friday, 9/27 and reoccurring the 4th Friday of each month through November (10/25, and 11/29) at SoderWorld Wellness Center in Willowbrook, IL. This is a wonderful class for those looking to de-stress, unwind, stretch and reward yourself for all that you do throughout the week! Join me THIS Friday to find your yoga bliss:
Yin & Vin
A night of Yin Yoga followed by Wine
Like pairing a perfect wine with your meal, Yin yoga is a perfect compliment to the more vigorous, flowing movement of traditional (yang) styles of yoga like Hatha or Vinyasa. Yin yoga is a challenging, grounding and relaxing practice generally geared towards the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, lower spine and shoulders. Poses are held for longer periods of time (3-5 minutes) to safely stretch and soften these tissues with the aim of increasing circulation and improving flexibility as well as stimulating the energy meridians (or qi) which are believed to help improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. This is a wonderful physical yoga practice for all levels and a great way to unwind after a hectic week! At the conclusion of the workshop, we invite you to enjoy another perfect pairing, wine and the amazing company of your fellow yogis.
6:00 – 8pm
Cost: $35 / $50 a couple
*NOTE: Must pre-register for this workshop as space is limited. Call 630-455-5885 to register or stop in at the front desk. Please allow a 24 hour notice should you need to cancel so there is availability for other students.
As it turns out, I’m finding that having my own website and keeping it updated is a bit more challenging then expected! Forgive me for these long gaps in my posts and please feel free to supplement by visiting (and “Liking”) my Joy Peace and Health Facebook page, which is a little easier for me to update, however, no excuses, I really do need to understand and use this website a lot more often! Stay tuned! My long term goal is to figure this whole website thing out and make it something enjoyable for you all!
To be honest, one of my major hurdles (aside from struggling with how the heck to maneuver a website) has been getting back on the computer to do “work”. I’ve worked in an office environment for well over half of my adult life (thus far anyway), most of it spent staring at computer screens, composing emails, creating excel spreadsheets, yada yada…These days, my computer time is limited to catching up on Facebook, checking my personal emails, and googling anything from Yoga and Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease (it’s a thing, look it up!), to Hummingbird Bee Moth images (they’re cute, believe!), and entertainingly enough…the Sasquatchit (see the Bigfoot Lunch Club website for that gem!). I needed a break from my computer screen, and this past year has been all about taking a little time away from it, focusing more on building my yoga classes, getting off my butt and taking care of some things that I’d been slacking on, and enjoying life away from a desk.
I’ve got some updates to my class schedules and a lot of thoughts/info/etc I’d like to share soon, so stay tuned!

When the Breath wanders, the mind is unsteady, but when the Breath is still, so is the mind still.” – Hatha Yoga Pradipika
This is going to sound weird but seriously, I love breathing (always), (but) especially in my yoga practice! As both a yoga student and yoga instructor, I’ve grown to appreciate the benefits of a solid pranayama (aka: yoga breathing exercises) practice.
The quality of our breath affects us on almost every level from our nervous system and body chemistry, to our mental and emotional state. This means that every other aspect of our lives is affected by the quality of our breath. Pranayama can reduce mental tension, help us to focus, increase the body’s energy level, and calm and strengthen the mind. I don’t know about you, but personally, I need help help in all those areas! And while it might seem like a no brainer to simply inhale and exhale, there are definitely ways for us to consciously improve how we breathe both on and off the mat.
One of the most common breathing exercises is Diaphragmatic Breathing (breathing in and out of the diaphragm as opposed to your chest). It’s a simple practice and helps slow down the heart rate, lower blood pressure, clear the mind, relax the muscles and reduce stress. Naturally it’s one of the first techniques I like to teach to a new class, and is also a great exercise to practice on your own at any time.
Wow, hi everyone! Long time no update!
So, its been forever since I’ve posted anything personal. I think it’s going to take awhile to get used to having a place where I put my thoughts down for the world to read, but there is so much going on right now, that I felt like maybe today was a good day to start sharing!
Wonder what this site is all about? It’s about pursuing my passion, braving strange, new landscapes, making life an adventure, sharing what I learn along the way and yoga!
For over 12 years, yoga has played an extremely important role in my life, both physically and emotionally, and after years of dreaming about turning something I love into something I get to do for a living, I’ve decided to make that leap. This is such an exciting (and admittedly somewhat intimidating) time in my life, that I thought it would honestly be great to document what happens, pass along the experience, provide you with as much yoga knowledge as I can, and maybe even inspire you…whether that’s to try yoga for the first time, try out one of my classes, or to make your own leaps…
This website symbolizes a number of firsts for me. My first website, my first public forum, and most importantly, the very first time I’ve hit the restart button on my career path. I have no idea what to expect, but I am so anxious to tell you about it! This site is a work in progress, so check back often. I’ll be providing online classes, updating you on what’s going on, where I’m teaching and anything I can think of that fills these pages with what I consider Joy, Peace and Health!!!!
